Sharing best Practice to Support Service Children

The experiences of Service families are quite different from those in civilian life and, at times, these may have very significant impacts upon them. Their specific needs, and those of their children are frequently overlooked because of a lack of understanding of the pressures placed upon them and the context in which they live.
SCSN is an independent, non-profit, social enterprise. We are a group of education and welfare professionals who work collaboratively with the Service community and associated organisations to encourage and facilitate the provision of high-quality support to Service children and their families. We believe it is vital that other professionals are made aware of the challenges that can arise as a result of Service life and the potential impacts that they can have on children and their educational attainment if they are to support them effectively.
A number of organisations and individual professionals continue to conduct research into Service life and it's impacts and influences on Service families and children. However, paractitioners who work with Service families will know that it is often difficult to find and access related research material. SCSN gives researchers the opportunity to share their findings with the intention of assisting other professionals when they are considering how they can improve support to Service children.
The SCSN Academic Conference will take place at Oxford
University on 10 September 2012.
This one day event will shine the spotlight on the research
currently being undertaken in the fields of education, psychology, and
health relating to the life experiences of service children and their
families in the UK. Our presenters will focus on the emerging issues in
this under-researched area and consider the
implications for current and future policy development and practice. Download Booking Form

working in this field.
